In 7th grade, we combine with 8th grade to form one concert band.  We continue to work on all the same fundamental theory that we started in 6th grade and add to it with, more complex time signatures, key signatures, more complex rhythms, and more difficult music.  Improvisation is also introduced and can be an exciting and challenging time.  During this time some students find that they have a real "ear" for music and natural ability.

Music is unique among all humans.  It is one language we all speak and understand.  Numerous studies have found that music programs and "arts involvement teaches children many skills necessary to succeed in life, including problem-solving and decision making, building self-confidence and self-discipline, the ability to imagine what might be and to accept responsibility for it, teamwork, the development of informed perception, and articulating a vision."
